Televisions have been around for years but at no point have they changed as rapidly as they are now. The TV has become an important part of our everyday lives not just for consuming our favourite TV programs but for gaming, streaming and catching up with friends via Facebook or Zoom.
We know that if you are looking for a new TV you will have come across a huge minefield of features and abbreviated names, these features and names need to be addressed to ensure that your purchase will meet your present and future needs.
As AV Installers we know a thing or two about these modern features and are here to help you on your journey. The main feature that most people are looking for is a 'Smart TV' most if not all televisions these days have some sort of smart built in. This allows you to binge boxsets or films from subscription services such as Netflix, Amazon, Disney Plus and many others. Some TV's also have Apple TV built in meaning that its now easier to share things from your iPhone or iPad to your TV.
There are also variants or sub categories within the 4K performance including HDR, HDR10 & Dolby Vision. These different sub categories each give a varying yet improved picture but not all TV's support them so consideration will need to be given.
4K may seem relatively new but manufacturers are already producing 8K televisions however, at present there is no way of transmitting that amount of data so for the minute 8K seems to be reserved for the next gen consoles including the PS5 and Xbox.
In an effort to reduce clutter around your TV manufacturers included a HDMI connection that was labelled ARC, this stands for Audio Return Channel meaning that when you play an app within the TV the sound can be sent to your soundbar or AV Receiver via the HDMI ARC connection. ARC is limited to Dolby Digital 5.1 so if you want to make use of modern sound technologies such as Dolby Atmos then a TV with ARC isn't enough. Luckily there is a new version called eArc that allows all present sound formats, including Dolby Atmos, to be sent from your TV to your Soundbar or AV Receiver.
